ESTATE PLANNING FOR PRIVATE CLIENTS

A considered plan for wealth, family, and the decisions that endure.

We help individuals and families preserve control, protect the people they love, and transfer wealth with clarity and intention.

A MORE DELIBERATE BEGINNING

Complex planning should begin with diagnosis—not documents.

Traditional estate planning often begins by selecting instruments: a will, a revocable trust, an irrevocable trust, or a tax-planning technique. That can work well for a straightforward estate.

For a high-net-worth family, however, the important risks often lie between the documents—in ownership, beneficiary designations, entity agreements, tax assumptions, liquidity, fiduciary choices, and plans prepared by different advisors at different times.

THE PRIVATE CLIENT PLANNING ASSESSMENT

Do the estate documents still fit the family and wealth that exist today?

Do ownership, beneficiary designations, and governing agreements support the same plan?

Will fiduciaries have the authority, information, and liquidity they need?

Are transfer-tax savings being considered alongside income tax and basis?

Are family circumstances likely to create friction, vulnerability, or unintended control?

Is implementation sequenced so that the plan can work beyond the signing table?

ASSESSMENT BEFORE IMPLEMENTATION

A clear view of the whole, before the legal work is prescribed.

The Private Client Planning Assessment is a distinct paid advisory engagement. Its purpose is to determine what the family’s planning should accomplish, how the present arrangements work together, and what deserves attention first.

01 / Establish the complete picture
We examine the family, the assets, the entities, the existing documents, contractual designations, tax assumptions, liquidity, and the people expected to carry out the plan.

02 / Test how the parts work together
We identify conflicts, gaps, outdated assumptions, concentration risks, and points where legal, tax, investment, insurance, and family decisions depend upon one another.

03 / Set the order of work
You receive an attorney-prepared assessment and prioritized roadmap defining the decisions, legal work, advisor coordination, and implementation sequence that deserve attention.

WHY THE ASSESSMENT MODEL

Strategy is separated from document production.

For families with substantial or complicated estates, this creates a more reliable foundation than choosing documents at the outset. Recommendations emerge from the family’s actual facts and priorities; existing arrangements are tested before they are replaced; and the scope, sequence, and purpose of implementation become visible before drafting begins.

Not every family requires this depth of analysis. It is especially valuable when wealth includes closely held businesses, multiple entities, significant real estate, existing trusts, charitable plans, complex beneficiary needs, or meaningful tax exposure.

Your written planning assessment

Current-plan observations
Ownership and beneficiary alignment
Tax, basis, and liquidity issues
Family and fiduciary considerations
Prioritized implementation roadmap

A substantive advisory result—even before implementation begins.

THE WORK THAT MAY FOLLOW

Documents selected to serve the plan—not the other way around.

Wills and foundational planning
Carefully prepared wills, powers of attorney, advance directives, and related documents that establish authority and protect the people who depend upon you.

Revocable and irrevocable trusts
Trust planning designed around control, privacy, beneficiary protection, tax considerations, and the orderly stewardship of family wealth.

Complex and blended families
Deliberate structures for children from prior relationships, unequal inheritances, vulnerable beneficiaries, and family circumstances that call for more than a standard plan.

Tax-sensitive wealth transfer
Planning that addresses transfer-tax, income-tax, and basis considerations and coordinates with tax and financial advisors when the circumstances require it.

PERSONAL COUNSEL, COORDINATED THOUGHTFULLY

“A sophisticated plan is not a collection of techniques. It is a set of decisions made coherent.”

We coordinate with the family’s accountants, financial advisors, insurance professionals, and other counsel when appropriate, while preserving a clear legal point of view and a disciplined order of implementation.
